A Powerball ticket sold in California won $41,761 but just missed the $48 million jackpot, lottery officials say. The ticket matched four winning numbers and the Powerball in the drawing Saturday, Dec. 14, the California Lottery said.

In Georgia, players had another chance to take home significant winnings. The state's lottery officials reported that although no one claimed the top jackpot, a number of smaller prizes were won. As is typical with Powerball drawings, the winnings were distributed across various tiers, with several players winning smaller amounts.

The tickets matched five winning numbers, but not the Mega Ball, in the drawing Friday, Dec. 13, the national Mega Millions site said. Tickets sold in Massachusetts and New York each won $1 million, the lottery said.
