The death toll in the French territory of Mayotte from Cyclone Chido is "several hundred" and may run into the thousands.

According to a French official, Cyclone Chido which has left governnet buildings, hospitals damaged and destroyed other infrstaructure, is the worst cyclone to have hit France in the last 90 years.
