Several people were injured, and a “wide range” of property damage was reported in the Santa Cruz community of Scotts Valley over the weekend after a rare tornado hit the area, the National Weather Service said.

After a rare tornado earning an EF-1 rating from the National Weather Service in Scotts Valley Saturday afternoon toppled cars and forced residents to take cover, police Sunday said the number of reported injuries remains consistent at five with no fatalities reported as the cleanup continued.

Scotts Valley Police say tornado winds flipped over six cars, including a Cal Fire pickup truck, and knocked down trees and power lines in its path.
