South Korea’s parliament voted to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol on Saturday in an extraordinary rebuke that came about after his own ruling party turned on him following his refusal to resign over his short-lived martial law attempt.

Thousands of protesters celebrated after the vote, as Yoon is suspended while the prime minister serves as acting president.

South Korea’s main opposition leader Lee Jae-myung said there are no plans for now to impeach Acting President Han Duck-soo, who’s facing investigations over his role in the martial law decision.
