Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake was hosted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his first overseas visit since assuming office that focused on shoring up ties as concerns grew over China’s influence in the region.

Sri Lankan President Anura Dissanayake landed in New Delhi on Sunday for his first foreign trip after assuming office in September this year. He was received by Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan.

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, currently on a three-day visit to India, assured New Delhi on Monday that Sri Lanka would not permit its territory to be used in any manner against India's interests.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India and Sri Lanka has decided to soon conclude defence cooperation agreement. He said that both nations have decided to have cooperation on hydrography. In his joint statement with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake,

India will supply Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to Sri Lanka's power plants, as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi following discussions with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka. This marks Disanayaka's first foreign trip since becoming president in September.

Anura Kumara Dissanayake is in New Delhi for a state visit. He chose India as his first bilateral visit after victories in presidential and parliamentary polls.
