(Reuters) - Meta's Facebook was down for more than 50,000 users on Wednesday, while Instagram was down for more than 23,000 users, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

Facebook is down and users are reporting outages to downdetector, the site that reports problems with popular websites. The Facebook spike started shortly after 1 p.m. Eastern Time. The biggest problem occured on the mobile app, where 57% of the problems were reported. The site had another 33% of the problems. And it was happening all over.

Users reported problems accessing many of Meta's social media services, including Facebook, Instagram and Messenger.

Meta announced a technical issue Wednesday afternoon disrupting access to the technology conglomerate’s apps. The company owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. On X, formerly known as Twitter, Meta said the issue is impacting some users’ ability to access apps.
