A federal judge rejected a defense bid to vacate former Sen. Bob Menendez's July bribery conviction, saying prosecutors proved their case.

Former New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez's request for a new trial in his corruption case was rejected by a Manhattan federal court judge on Friday.

Menendez had argued that his bribery and corruption convictions should be vacated because prosecutors accidentally showed jurors evidence that was barred by special protections for members of Congress.

A jury found Bob Menendez guilty of bribery and other charges in July — but a major error by prosecutors could give Menendez a get-out-of-jail-free card.

Nadine Menendez, the wife of former Sen. Bob Menendez, will face trial on bribery and other charges on Jan. 21, a federal judge ordered Monday. Though she was originally set to stand trial earlier this year alongside Menendez and his codefendants, her trial was delayed so she could receive treatment for breast cancer.
