Dozens of Canada Post workers gathered outside a delivery centre in east Toronto reacted with a mixture of frustration, disappointment and hope on Friday morning as Ottawa announced it was moving to end their nearly month-long work stoppage.

After weeks pledging it wouldn’t get involved, Canada’s federal government has moved to end a weeks-long strike at Canada Post. Canada’s labour minister said Friday he would not order binding arbitration right away but has begun a process that could force workers back on the job as early as next week.

Federal Labour Minister Steven Mackinnon announced the government is moving to end the nearly month-long Canada Post strike saying the Crown corporation and union were clearly at an impasse. Canada Post workers in Toronto reacted moments after the announcement.
