Skywatchers looking for the last full moon of 2024 can look to the sky this weekend for a glimpse of the "cold moon," which will hit peak brightness just after 4 a.m. EST on Sunday morning. But the moon will still look full Saturday evening through Monday.

It’s also the last full moon before the Winter Solstice, which falls on Dec. 21. Other names for this month’s full moon: the Frost Moon, the Oak Moon, the Winter Moon and the Moon Before Yule. It’s also called the Long Night Moon because it falls near the solstice, which is typically known as the longest night of the year.
